Origin Story: Dobermans were first bred in the 1880’s in central Germany by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann. As a tax collector who also ran a dog pound with access to many dog breeds, he had the idea to breed a dog that would be ideal for protecting him.
Dobermans are an incredibly versatile breed. They have a remarkable ability to sense threats and can accurately determine who is a friend and who is not. When trained and socialized well, they are also fun-loving dogs with huge hearts, a great sense of humor, and a desire to stick close to their humans. This is the origin of their nickname: the velcro dog.
